Deborah Law interviews Janet, a pseudonymous counselor from Challenge Metro, an organization serving the St. Louis gay and lesbian community for 20 years. Challenge Metro offers a hotline for counseling and information, a speakers bureau, and the Lesbian and Gay Archives. The hotline receives around 2,500 calls annually, primarily from young people dealing with coming out issues. Challenge Metro also reports hate crimes to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and collaborates with local authorities. Volunteer training sessions are held twice a year, and interested individuals can contact 367-0084 for more information.
