I'm So Weary of It All

Sound file

The musical review Words and Music of 1932 eventually was modified and revived in 1939 for Broadway as Set to Music. Beatrice Lillie was the star of the revue. She certainly sang successfully this jaded ode to the ennui and isolation of stardom. It is not hard at all to imagine Noël Coward himself singing the song with conviction. It has always been one of my very favorite Coward pieces, so here I am, the pathetic inferior of both Coward and Lillle, but attempting to sincerely sing my little gold-filigreed heart out.
