By "new age song" I do not mean the genre of instrumental music typified
by Kitaro or George Winston. Think rather of the new age metaphysical
movement
popularized by Shirley McClain. Each of these songs, as well as, perhaps,
some of the environmental songs I have written, contains implicit or
explicit "new age" ideas, such as chakras, reincarnation, light as a
metaphor for God, connectedness at the level of vibration, and so forth.
These songs have all been performed many times for various events.
I am a priest encourages us to look to the East,
overcome our indecision, find that new, transforming fire, and start
to fan it.
I love Unicorn, also listed as a children's song.
A lyrical portrait of the gentle, magic, silver beast.
In We are all connected, I dream of all human creatures
being connected by a central force, a voice that is leading us and
a light shining from our brows.
Ken Keyes, Jr., inventor of so many excellent new age perspectives,
including the twelve
pathways to higher consciousness, also invented the story about
the Hundredth
Monkey. The song We are the light of the world is
a musical version of the Hundredth Monkey story.
Soul friends actually should also be classified
as a love song, or at least a friend song. It's about being friends
through various lifetimes.
One theory correlates the seven chakras with the seven colors of
the rainbow, and this song avers that We are the rainbows,
the rainbows of the Earth.
