It was surely my exploration of the "New Age" movement of the early
1980's that led to the creation of most of these lovely songs.
I took a trip west by myself in the late summer of 1982. While I
was visiting Glacier National Park, I wrote Beautiful Planet.
The spiraling melody just came to me while descending the Going to
the Sun Road.
As a part of this same trip, I wrote an ode to our Earth, a blue-green
ball, lamenting Her torture through war and environmental
distruction.
The Rainbow Warrior is a long sea chantey about
the efforts of the crew of this ship, members of Greenpeace, who took
to sea to expose
the flagrant killing of grey whales in eastern Siberia.
An astronaut who has travelled the far reaches of the solar system
praises the phenomenal beauties of Earth.
This syncopated,
humorous, semipolitical plea for sustainable
agriculture was written at the end of the 1980's.
The Animals and we "are all connected in a great
ecology, and what becomes of each of us affects the unity." Inspiring
words for all of Earth's creatures.
A nice, catchy tango, performed at the Midwest Greenpeace Meeting
in 1990 reminds us: People, won't you please recycle the
resources of the earth!
