Gonna work it out if she can

© 1967 by Jim Andris

Chorus:
Gonna work it out if she can.
Gonna make it alright with her man.
Because the good Lord knows
That when the rooster crows
She's gonna love him all over again.

Well, she met a guy,
It was the last of July.
He drove a crane at the new construction.
And like a crazy dame
She played the lovin' game.
That guy was her destruction.

They dated quite a lot,
They always quarreled and fought,
And then one day, it was the last of October.
She said, "It's plain to see
You've gotta marry me."
It was the last time she saw him sober.

Chorus

The news was all over town
That he was playing around
With every two bit tramp in the town.
And like the risin' tide
The baby grew inside
And there was no way to slow it down.

Then came the April rain,
And, still alone and in pain,
She took a cab to her sister's house.
And wet with sweat and fright
She had his kid that night;
You know, he looked just like the louse!

Chorus
