Bill

© 1979 by Jim Andris

Bill, my dreams have long been on the shelf,
Tarnished visions from my past.
And, Bill, I've slowly turned within myself,
Deciding each new pain would be the last.
But you have given me the strength again
To turn my eyes to something new.
One more vision for me,
A nd one true friend for you.

I've never even held your hand, but still
You know the ranges of my mind.
I feel as though you've held me close, dear Bill,
And smiled at all that you could find.
There's no one else who in so short a time
Has gone so surely to my heart.
You have taken yourself,
And given me a part.

It's just as though a greater force
Has put us on a single course
For just how long or why I cannot say.
You broke through my disguise to men,
And brought tears to my eyes again,
And helped me see that there's a better way.

Yes, you have opened up my heart to love.
I wonder what we're coming to.
So I wait for the day
That I will be with you.
