The first warm spring rain

© 1969 by Jim Andris

The first warm spring rain
Will wash the green from the trees,
Will bring us down to our knees
In a sigh of content.

Clouds part; we walk out
Through fields fresh-swept with a breeze.
We climb the hill with love's ease,
And I ask your consent.

Softly, you're whispering yes in my ear.
Now I reach into your heart without fear.
Touching and feeling
Limbs turning, minds reeling,
Caressing, embracing,
I cry, self-effacing,
"I love you, my darling, I love you.
Love you. Love you."
My body, my soul are part of you.
Of you. And of

The first warm spring rain
That brings us back to the earth,
That brings its sign of rebirth
To mark our covenant.
