About the Author

Jim Andris is a seventy two year old gay man with lots of memories, many of them musical. He’s been keeping these musical memories to himself for too long. Here they are, for what they’re worth.

Who has Jim Andris become?

He grew up in the closet, toilet trained by homophobic men in an age of oppression. But somewhere along the way he discovered a way out, through risk, adventure, and always, a song. In the words of one of his songs, “It was hard to describe him, but he’s often been compared to a butterfly, fairy or elf, and he wanted to try to be a little less shy. He just wanted to be himself.” This musical review records the essence of my very delayed and delightful adolescence.
