About the Review

I have completed one musical review, Songs from a Gay Man's Heart, © 1991. It has never been produced, but I am certainly open to exploring a production of this piece. In April of 2014 I gave a single performance of the entire review for the Second Sunday Dinner Theatre in St Louis which was very well received. Unfortunately, there are no videos of this review.

This review is the history of my development as a gay songwriter, weaving the story around many ballads and love songs. It traces my songwriting from my lovesick teenage days (1953), when the only way a homosexual boy knew how to express his romantic feelings was through the dominant cultural genre of the time. The late sixties were a black period, but starting about 1971, I began to date, and even to have gay adventures. The 1970's were an exciting decade for gay men, just as the 1980's sobered and pained all of us. Acts Two and Three document the up and the down of this roller coaster.
The story of how I finally met my partner of 25 years, Stephen, is begun. Telling that story, however, will take another review.
