I've walked the earth for forty years searching for an answer.
I studied in the finest schools and traveled far and wide.
But nothing stilled my deepest fears or made my heart a dancer.
God's presence still was hidden deep inside.
I read books on astrology and turned to telling fortunes,
And, God, I spent a fortune just on psychotherapy.
I used my dearest friends by telling them my great misfortunes,
Until I saw that God was here with me.
Oh, yes, until I saw that God was here with me.
I'm not alone anymore.
I opened up the door
And Jesus smiled and took away my strife.
It's such a simple thing to do,
And you can do it, too:
Open up your heart and change your life.
Change your life.
I got so tired of searching, that I closed my mind to meaning
And spent my nights in bars; a frozen statue like the rest.
We never stopped to wonder if the bars that we were leaning on
Were really only put there as a test.
One night in desperation then, I
opened up my Bible.
My eyes fell on the lines that say, "Repent ye, and be saved."
I recognized my wasted life, became the Lord's disciple,
And I saw beyond the doorway at my grave.
Oh, yes, I saw beyond the doorway at my grave.
I'm not alone anymore.
I opened up the door
And Jesus smiled and took away my strife.
It's such a simple thing to do,
Why don't you do it, too:
Open up your heart and change your life.
Let God's love change your life.
