Harry Walker

© 1968 by Jim Andris

Harry Walker was a star.
It didn't get him very far.
What does fame and fortune mean
When you don't know where you've been,
And you don't know who you are?

They'd been training him since birth:
Football hero, prove your worth.
You must prove that you're a man;
Hit and swagger while you can,
While you're still upon this Earth.

So he negated all the soft and gentle feelings in his soul.
And he put up a front of relating to women,
While getting it off alone.

Still a sad frustration grew.
Deep inside somehow he knew.
Restless feelings stirred again
When he looked upon a man
And he lusted for him, too.

Then he sat alone in his room one night and called a friend and told.
And he heard the word that has crushed the spirit
Of millions yet untold.

Thought he'd put himself to rest.
He went up to the bathroom chest.
Took enough to make him die,
Heaved his spirit with a sigh,
And Harry Walker was a star.

Oh, Harry Walker, where are you?
Harry Walker, who are you?
Harry Walker, you're a star!
