Do
you believe in retribution?
© 1974 by Jim Andris
I watched a wasp die today;
He'd just stung a friend.
I watched him squirm his life away.
I watched him to the end.
And I know someone has to pay,
But I don't think it should be him.
There's got to be a better way;
If not, our chances are so slim.
Do you believe in retribution?
Do you believe he had to go?
Is that a revolution?
Oh, no!
And though he did wrong,
I find it in my heart to forgive him.
And though he sang an evil song
Marching as to war.
That was the song he'd been taught to sing.
That was the way that he did his thing.
And though you say that you've more to bring
Won't you please think of this:
Do you believe in retribution?
Do you believe in retribution?
