Time for a ChangeIt was time for a change. I had become heavily involved in the gay community in St. Louis. I was the president of the Gay Academic Union, I was on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitain Community Church, and I had my own gay talk show on KADI with friend Byron. Oh, the stories I could tell. Byron, by the way, was always putting books in my hand to read. They were books of a spiritual or mystical nature, books I would never think to seek out myself. And these books gradually were opening me to new ways of seeing the world. My dear friend, Rosanda, fell in love and got married on February 8, 1980. My last close tie to the East Side was broken. I found an apartment a block from the Majestic Restaurant in St. Louis and decided to throw myself whole-heartedly into the gay scene there. But no one, including myself, was prepared for the '80s.
