Celebration

A song for all oppressed …

a song for all …

© Glenda Dilley/Cea Hearth, March, 1978

So. My little card, I have notes on cards and I’m suppose to say to introduce these songs, so the next part says, “If you’ve ever worn a pair of shoes that didn’t fit and then took them off and put on your old slippers, then you have a rough idea of what it feels like to finally find a place that you feel at home. So that’s what this next song is about, celebration, feeling, at one and of one piece with things. And part of it is on this machine, and I’m playing a little extra part with it here. [Music starts] Wrong one. [Music starts again]

I am the deep rolling sea
I am the roots of the tree
I know just what I should be
   Soon we will be free
   Still, I love you still

I stand on the God-given Earth
My roots push me up to the sky
I'm glad for my God-given birth

I want to learn how to fly
I want to give it a try
I want to live til I die

I want to love when it's true
I want to work til it's through
I want to come back to you
