'K, I think I'll do two more, and then I'll have a break. Ok, this Moonchant song has to do with the picture that's on the page of the program. It centers around the three goddesses of the moon: Artemis, the goddess of the waxing moon, Selene, the goddess of the full moon, and Hecate, the goddess of the waneing moon, the dark side. Classical mythology has universal application; back in Greece they would say, "You have to give Hecate her due." Today we say you need to deal with your feelings, even if you don't like them, or they'll get you in trouble. So, we have different words for the same principles, I think, and so that's what this song is about.
Artemis, Artemis, Artemis …
Selene,
Selene, Selene …
And to Hecate, Goddess of witches
And to Hecate, Mother of witches
Artemis …
They came to the moontree in the wood
The woman came to see her as she stood
She would help them with their creation
She would fill them with inspiration, Artemis.
Artemis is the place in our minds
That helps us bring birth to our designs
New life in any form is her pleasure
A rose, a song, a child—all her treasures, Artemis.
Selene …
Selene pulls the full moon 'cross the sky
Her chariot, drawn by bulls that can fly
She's the goddess of spirit and majesty
She's the mother of spirit and majesty,
Selene, Selene,Selene,Selene,Selene, …
Selene is that place in our minds
That tells us where we are is just fine
We are each on our path to liberation
Selene lights the way to our destination, Selene.
Selene, Selene,Selene,Selene,Selene,…
And to Hecate, Goddess of witches
And to Hecate, Mother of witches
Hecate is our energy from the darker side
If we meet her face to face there's no need to hide
We are strong enough to see our fears and hatred
We are stronger than our greatest fears and hatreds
And to Hecate, Goddess of witches
And to Hecate, Mother of witches
Hecate is that place in our minds
Bringing feelings of the most troublesome kinds
Giving Hecate our due is our obligation
If we hide we prolong our tribulation, Hecate
And to Hecate, Mother of witches
And to Hecate, Goddess of witches
