I
have a penny in my pocket
© 1964 by Jim Andris
I have a penny in my pocket that's let the rest of the world go by.
I have a penny in my pocket,
And it will stay there until I die.
I have a penny, but the way some people talk,
You'd think that people judge a man by what is
in his pocket.
I have a penny in my pocket that's let the rest of the world go by.
I have
a dream that can't be shattered; it's like a message for the minds of
men.
When I see a man whose clothes are tattered,
I seem to hear it for the
first time again.
I have a dream that can't be shattered;
But the way some people talk,
you'd think it's clothes that mattered.
I have a dream that can't be shattered; it's like a message for the
minds of men.
I have a love that's deep within me that keeps me free from the walls
of hate.
Along with my penny and the truth I hold,
It keeps me high above the
hands of Fate.
I have a love that's deep within,
But the way some people talk, you'd think that love was sin.
I have a love that's deep within, and if you'll listen, friends, it's not
too late.
There was a wisdom in my waiting to let the rest of the world go by.
There was a wisdom in my waiting. Just let me tell it once before I die.
There was a wisdom in my waiting:
Don't you know that lies and money turn your heart to hating.
There was a wisdom in my waiting, so if a man can wait, his soul can fly.
