My song

© 1974 by Jim Andris

I'm me, no more trying to live for others now;
I'm free, and I'm standing up to take a bow.
I see that the place I am's the only place to be.

I'm through putting what I want in second place.
I'm through. I can take the mask off of my face,
And you'll see a me that no one can replace. I'm through.

Looking back upon the past, I see what I did wrong;
I didn't sing the music in my heart.
Now I hear at last the fragile pieces of a song;
It's the tune that I've been humming from the start.

I'm glad that I've turned to face the light of day.
I'm sad that it took so long to find my way.
Goodbye to a past that was a prison, not a home.
Hello to an open space where I am free to roam.

Looking to the future now, I feel a subtle glow;
The life I've picked is beautiful, indeed.
I won't stop to question how I'll make it, for I know
That my music and my friends are all I need.

I'll grow everytime I write another song.
I'll know everytime I sing I'm growing strong.
I'll show all the talent I've been hiding deep inside.
I'm home; I have found a place where I can build my pride.

I'm me.
