My "Summer of Love"

I was finally to have my "summer of love" seventeen years late. My decision to swear off the search for a man's love opened my heart to many things. Earlier in the spring, my changed frame of mind led me to meet a number of people in the St. Louis New Age community who were living a more peaceful and spiritual lifestyle.

In August of 1982 I took off for the west, but this time, I was to spend the entire time camping by myself. I wrote the song I just sang to you while sitting on a huge rock looking over a mountainside pine forest. I had been travelling the Going To the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, and the winding mountain curves just translated into the sinuous melody of the song as it slides down to its conclusion. By the time I had left the park, I had written the song, Beautiful Planet, in my mind.
